A few months ago, I discovered the food blog of someone in my real life community through the virtual food blog community that is Tastespotting. Her blog, Blueridge Baker, is in my links at right, and it's both mouthwatering and visually pleasing. (Go there as soon as you finish reading this.) I love when stuff like that happens! Anyway, around the time that I discovered her blog, Sarah posted about a fun project that she and some other food blogger ladies came up with called Secret Bakers. People sign up and are randomly assigned a bakee to make some treats for in a specified theme. Then, everyone sends their packages on the same day and we get surprise treats in the mail! Generally, everyone takes photos of what they receive (I forgot this time, sorry!) and the host will post the pics with the name of the person who baked them. Seriously fun, so I signed up for the second round, which was Christmas cookies and was hosted by Margie at Tea and Scones. Round three was healthy treats, hosted by Tracey at Tracey's Culinary Adventures.
I have really enjoyed being part of this - it makes me feel like I am part of the bigger world out there in a tiny but tangible (and delicious!) way. When the call went out for a round four host, I had an immediate inspiration for mini-treats as a theme and I volunteered. So that's what we're doing! If you would like to join in on the fun and bake some traditional treats in miniature or any other small-size sweets, please contact me via e-mail (it's listed in my info) and let me know your name, blog if you have one, any dietary restrictions or taste preferences, and the address where your baker should send your package. Sign-up will run until Sunday night and I will send out bakee assignments on Monday. The send date will be Tuesday February 16. Hope I can rope some new folks into the fun!
